Fire proof cloth or protective covering material?

At the shop where I was first exposed to serious body and paint work they had a cloth that was 100% fireproof.

We used it primarily to protect flammable materials like the interior of a car while welding near by.

My understanding was that this cloth was asbestos and you could weld over it all day long and it never showed a hint of heat damage.

Is there something out there like this that could be purchased for use in the manner I describe? Obviously it needs to be large enough to spread out and cover/protect a fair amount of space.

I've done a little searching the internet and am not coming up with much.

Something like that won't be cheap, but a fire isn't cheap either.

A guy I know had someone weld a break in the roll cage of his FJ40. The guy ruined his buckets seats because he didn't cover them properly.

Very good chevman. that looks like the deal.

Thank you!

The hard thing about internet searches is not knowing exactly what to call whatever it is you are looking for. I was finding all sorts of flame retardant drapery and upholstery material and the likes. You nailed it quickly. :)
