Is it really worth spending the extra 30 bucks to get a buffer with a 5/8 spindle ?

If your a hobbiest the cheaper ones will be ok, but there is a world of difference in the cheap versus the top of the line Makita. After using many brands and then the makita, even if I was a hobbiest I would stick with the makita. I buff 4-5 cars a month, 6 years later it is still going. The cheaper brands I used lasted maybe two to three years only buffing 4 or 5 cars a year. Plus add the cost of buying new arms and the makita would have been so much cheaper. Just my 2 cents worth.

I am a hobbiest when it comes to painting I guess you can say. In my life I am a mechanic though.

My question though, should I spend the extra money and get the better polisher from harbor freight ? The one with the arbor ?
