I took your advise, and now, after using the Meguiars 105, .

Discuss anything after that final masking comes off.

Yep, that's the one! I recommend a 5" backing plate and 5.5" pads for best results. Great finishing tool.

You also might look into the Meg's Microfiber system. Just 1 cutting pad and 1 polishing pad, and the results are fantastic.

I have one of those, it's not a DA (dual action) it's a RO (random orbit)
They are way less aggressive than a DA, great at polishing though.
They also work real good for fine sanding. I use mine a lot for sanding
in my wood shop.
I've had it for a long time, really held up great.

thats the one and jump on it for that price! da...ro.. doesnt matter to me what its called, but it is very aggressive. thats what makes it great for polishing and a menace for fine sanding automotive finishes. it does work good for sanding in my woodshop, too, but woodworking is a lot different than automotive finishes.

You might be interested in a Flex 3401...its a forced rotation dual action polisher...this tool is quite impressive with its abilities to correct and restore an autos finish...even removing up to p1500 grit sanding scratches without putting any holograms in the finish!

For finishing type polishing always make sure you are buffing flat- perferably with microfiber pad or foam pad

Buffing on side in your polishing stages will only induce marring, swirls, holograming.

For rotary usage i tend to stay 1200 to 1600 rpm

Extra consideration to be taken in effect for softer clears(Spies hecker) and self healing clears

What dan said about the flex. is quite tru, i have one- it is a mean combo to have along with rotary

tomsteve wrote:yup, that'll happen with a wool pad. after initial cut with a rotary, wool pad and 105, i switch to a DA an orange lake country pad and 105, then on to the 205 with an orange pad and the da. awesome results.

After the 205 and orange pad are you done? No swirl marks? I was looking at the Lake Country pads and the orange is for cutting. They have like 4 or 5 more that are less aggressive for polishing. Why dont you use any of those? Ive been thinking of getting some for my DA but dont want to buy extra pads I dont need.
