Discuss anything after that final masking comes off.

hello, new to this cut and buff and have a few questions.i painted a honda the other day .put down 3 coats color and 2 coats clear. i did put the clear on a little thick and got a bad sag. i blocked the sag down flat with 400 to 600 to 1500 to 2000.hit the sanded area with 3m rubbing compound, then 3 m polishing compound, and followed up with meguiars's ultimate compound.the area is almost has the shine of the surrounding area but not quite.i have done the rubbing, polishing, ultimate compound twice now. am i missing a step somewhere?

Might have been the 600 to 1500 jump.

You have to get the coarser grit scratches out. 1500 really doesn't cut all that much so you probably just rounded the tops off those 600 scratches.
I personally don't jump more than 500 in grits.
So in your case you should have followed the 600 grit with 1000 at the most. The trick is to keep sanding with the 1000 until ALL the lower grit scratches are gone, then sand with 1500 until ALL the 1000 grit scratches are gone, etc. Buffing will be a breeze if the sanding is done correctly.

I know it's a pain, but now is the time to do another coat of clear if you are worried it is too thin.

Chris makes a very good point. You sanded on 2 coats of clear with 400 and then 600 so there can't me much left.

I only used 400 and 600 on the sag.when it flattened out I use 1500 and 2000 to go over the rest.

Okay. I noticed you used rubbing compound which in my opinion is way too coarse. Are you trying to do this by hand?
If you have it sanded to 2000 then Megs 105 and a rotary buffer will make it shine.
