Just did my 1st paint job in 40 years. Went with SS 2k and considering the limitations I had to work under am basically pleased.
I am painting a small RV 10' tall x 24 long outdoors.
prep & prime w/2k primer went OK. Then DA w/400
Then shot 4-5 coats of SS 2k acrylic enamel. white in full Sun is a challenge to see where you left off. The size also prevented me from ensuring wet to wet coverage.
Here you can see reflection of window of shop
This shows the strong orange peel surface
Considering the conditions I am not too disapointed. It would have been nice to have cloudy day but with rain predicted I didn't have much choice.
I am not expecting to get glass smooth.
My plan 600 Wet then 1200 wet then cut with wool pad and finally foam pad to polish.
Is this reasonable?
A lot of surface to cover and would like to DA dry with the 600 then wet 1200 etc.
Ideas?

Check out my web blog www.RVTiresafety.com
More than just RV tire stuff is covered. |
for a white RV, I would do this... DA w/ 1500 dry, then DA w/ 3000 wet, then buff with wool pad and Megs 105 compound and call it a day. You'll be surprised how quick it buffs after 3000.
I hate white also, so hard to see what you are spraying even in a booth. But on the flipside, it's hard to make white look too terrible |

Nova- does it matter what kind of DA? I have a cheap little ADP da, my compressor wont keep up with a dynabrade... Woud you recommend this on a bc/cc paint job also?

No, brand shouldn't matter. Slowish speed and interface pad (less than $10) would be good ideas... Works on base clear too. Keep the paper and surface clean, if you see a pigtail in the sanding, stop immediately and clean the pad and surface. Check youtube for videos |
