Lots of different opinions on products and techniques.
I like Meguiars 105 with a twisted wool pad for the first go with a rotary buffer.
Follow with a foam pad and Meguiars 205 and you should be good to go.

For show cars the process of cut and buff is much more involved.

I use 3M Perfect It Ex (purple bottle), the compound (36060) cuts very well without leaving scratches. As already stated, hit it with your compound on a wool pad then follow with your glaze on a foam pad.

The 3m medium grade compound (05973) works well too, and is cheaper. I'm personally not a fan of miguiers products in general, but we all have our own preferences that work best for each of us.

1200 grit is fine, but you're going to spend more time buffing and still may see sand scratches depending on your compound used. I usually start with 1200 then sand up to 1500 - 2000 for a standard finish.

Now when I do show jobs, as was already stated, its a whole different process all together.

Hey this is my first post i know I'm a little behind the conversation but I've used Presta products and bonnets and i love it. The 3m guys try to change my mind but i have yet to see anything that works as well or as user friendly and Presta.
