I am trying to get the grill suround on my 70 chevy truck polished to a like chrome finish. I have tryed all diffrent types of polish but cant get it to shine as good as I want. It has very small pits and dull. Should i try wet sanding? (1200) Any one have Ideas?
Thanks
Mark

that piece is anodized...that's why you can't polish it to the shine you're looking for....
if you want it to look like chrome you'll have to strip the anodizing off it...not an easy task...

the best way that i've found was to 1st sand it with a courser grit, like 320-400 then up it around 1500...buff it 1st with a course (black) compound ending with something like a rouge......you got a buffing machine?

i doubt seriously you'll ever accomplish what you're looking for trying to polish it by hand...the easiest method, if you don't have the equipment is take it to a metal refinisher, have them strip it and re-anodize it....in the end, highly polished, unsealed aluminum is extremely difficult to maintain
