I am starting my first frame off restoration on a 69 GTO that needs the floor and trunk pans replaced. I always have my local body guy do all my work and paint but i feel like this is something i can do my self. What is the best wire welder for a week end warrior like my self. I was raised on a farm in central kansas so i have plenty of welding experience. One of my biggest questions is that i currently do not have 220v available but i can change that if i need to. thank you to any one who can help

I have the Hobart Handler 140, set up with gas -- I really like this welder. Haven't found anything yet where I wished I had one of the larger 220v versions.

A man of faith. I greatly respect that. |
I have a Lincoln 140 and it has done everything i've needed on my 69 Mustang restoration...shouldn't need 220 for what your doing.

I just bought the Northern Tool Mig 135. It comes with everything to set it up with gas so that is how I set it up. It welds awesome and cleanly, especially for a 110 volt welder. I am very pleased with it. Here is the link if you are interested.... http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/ ... _200332691
They also carry a "reconditioned" version that is about $100 less. Just thought I'd give you the info because it seems to match what you are looking for. Only bad side of the whole thing is that it is made in China but what's not nowadays. |

I use the Lincoln 140 and have had good success with it. I use 75/25 gas and the 25 wire for the floor pans.

Lincoln, Hobart, Miller....Take your pick but get a gas model. 120V is fine for floors and body panels.
Never argue with an idiot, he will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Good advice guys!
You dont need a 220V welder for body work. Most of the time you cant turn it down low enough any way....... "The number of parasites in the USA has now eclipsed the number of productive members of society"
