I would like to see one...I hate real hard clear...Its too hard to buff scratches out...can we get a chart done comparing various clear coats from different manufactures?

I think you're going to have to sponsor a durometer to a painter who uses a lot of different clears!

Get your durometer and start traveling to all the body shops with in a 100 mile radius and take notes....millions of notes!

The plus side to hard clears is they also don't scratch very easily.

I think there are certain applications where a harder clear might be better. I would love to see a chart like that.

It's always going to be "trade offs" with clears. A hard clear (a Nano ceramic/ hybrid is a good example) is extremely scratch and chip resistant, butttt... pray you never have to repair it or buff it once it does get damaged. And no it doesn't scratch but it does "shatter chip" like a window pane if a rock has enough force behind it. Softer clears are indeed easier to cut and buff and they are much easier to repair/ blend etc., if damaged but obviously they can scratch easily but..... they also flex and give when that same rock is coming at them. A hardness chart for clears would give you selection but from there its' more like "pick your poison."
