I've had a silver cap in 1.4 for a long time very happy with it. Some time ago I bought a used orange cap gun in 1.3 with the thought of dedicating it to base and my silver to clear. Used the orange cap for the first time recently and was immediately disappointed with the fan size. I benchmarked the two guns at the same pressure swapping the caps back and forth. The silver cap gave a fan size of about 10-11 inches at a distance of just over 5 inches. The orange cap gave 8-9 inches under the same conditions. regardles of which gun they were on. Fan and fluid wide open on both guns, about 20psi at the gun trigger pulled.
Checked both guns are clean, no obstructions no obvious issues with the orifices on the orange cap.
The official Iwata blurb states 11.4" for silver and 12.2 for Orange. No idea of what their test conditions are though.
Is this your experience too? If so, I'm not sure the orange cap is for this weekend warrior.

I found the silver cap more than capable to handle any base or clear. I have sprayed numerous metallic paint jobs in pieces and not had a single problem with mottling or tiger stripes. 1968 Coronet R/T

I know, me too.
But what about the fan size? There must be dozens of guys on here that use both caps. Speak up! I've tried Hub, but the Iwata forum is DEAD as a Dodo. |

I've only used thesse a couple times but
Sounds like maybe your paint is a little on the thick side. The orange cap has a tougher time doing what it is supposed to do when the paint is thick if I am remembering right. |
