Hi all
what's the best sawzall blade for cutting metal like a hood?
I bought some blades that say is designed for cutting metal
"Heavy Duty Bi-Metal LAZSER Reciprocating Saw Blades 6" 10tpi"
description:
"The new Lenox Laser Recip. Blade is designed to cut pipe, structural steel and stainless steel. The patented tooth design increases blade life and cutting speed. The Laser blade is 40% wider for even greater strength, durability and straight cutting"
but it sucks ****!
just trying to start tyhe inital cut the blade is all over the place,
looks like the teeth are way too big so the blade doesn't stay still
I'm thinking of trying the Sawall all purpose blade with 24 tpi or the carbide blade
what's the best sawzall blade for cutting metal like a hood?

If you can find one,, you need a blade with very fine teeth.
I use a cut off tool (Grinder with a thin 1/8th wide blade) A nibbler works good too. |

I get the blades with the most teeth I can for cutting sheetmetal. I think they are about 18 or 24 TPI. To use 10 TPI, would wear you out, and destroy the metal, as the gap between the teeth is large enough for the metal to fit in.

Yep,,,There should be two teeth in the metal at all times.

A sawzall isn't exactly the cleanest way to cut body panels. Three inch die grinder cut-off discs or 4 1/2" discs for the electric angle grinders make a lot nicer cut with better accuracy.

thanks guys
I might just use my dremel. I need to cuts as straight and smooth/clean as possible I want to try this (DIY vent in hood) http://www.240sx.org/links/installs/hood/hood.htm I figure if I "F" it up, I'll just buy another hood. my stock hood is worn out as hell, all the clear is gone, and the base is fading as well |

As a professional metal worker, i gotta agree with ODG. Get the finest tooth blade you can for metal cutting. Expect your going to distort the edges of the sheetmetal custs.. they will probably come out wavy using a sawzall.
I like using an rotary air cut off tool with a 1/16" thick cutting disc for thin metal. Wear safety glasses! If you go with the cut off disc tool buy plenty of those discs, they wear out fast. |
