I have my test panel ready to go. Wetsanded with p400 til all shine was gone and now I am ready to practice. How much paint would I need for a Taurus hood just the top?

I found this by using google, does this look right? Is this for 2 coats or 3?

"12.5 oz. basecoat spray can for each six square feet."

I would think a pint would do it.

Depends on the color that you are shooting, the color of the existing paint, brand of paint (some colors may take 2 coats in one brand and 6 in another), etc, etc.

You might be able to get a way with half a pint (which will most likly mix to a full pint), but get a pint to be safe.

Thanks guys. I am using the Shimrin Graphic Kolors BC25 Black. The test panel is a dark green. I really do not care if the maroon comes through a little on the test panel. All I am going for is good pattern, technique and making myself familiar with how everything will work together, mixing paint, adjusting the gun, air pressure etc.

Man I am so excited. I have the hood all scuffed and ready to shoot. Tomorrow will be a fun day for sure... As long as I do not forget to put on my respirator in all the excitement. :D

6 sq ft is smaller than any hood I have painted.
That would be 2'x3'
A Taurus hood is what, maybe 4'x3' min?
(probably bigger)
That's 12 sq ft right there. 8)

Ya the hood I measured at about 16sq ft so I made 16 ounces sprayable.

That's how I figure it, 1 oz sprayable for each square ft.
That gives me about 3 coats. 8)

I sprayed for the first time just the other day. It's a lot of fun. Enjoy.

Ya it is fun. I cannot wait to get the Taurus painted so I can do the Chevy. I learned a lot and cannot imagine how much money this will save me in the future when I get a car dinged up. ok... well maybe not save money, before I would have left the car dinged up. Now I will make sure to fix everything. :D
