hey guys,
I have owned a Devilbiss plus gun for a few years and really like it for the most part (a little too much overspray but it makes up for it by laying down a great finish). Anyway, my gun is shooting a small fan of around 6-8 inches or so. I rebuilt it and it didn't seem to have any effect on the fan size. It's like the fan pattern screw has almost no effect on the pattern size until it's screwed in 3/4 of the way or so.

I used to open up the fluid and the fan and then screw the fan back in a tiny amount just to get rid of the wispy edges, but now the fan isn't big enough to even produce wispy edges. I can screw in the fan screw a few turns and see no change in pattern size at all. Any ideas as to what causes the spray pattern to be reduced in size???

Do you have an inline water trap or dessicant? If so, lose it and try again. If the fan returns to normal, you have an issue with the water trap restricting CFM.

Thanks for the reply...
It's not a cfm issue as I measure after the dessicant and bulb moisture filter and set it at 40 psi at the gun (trigger held of course). Also, I can hook up any other gun to the end of the line and not have any problem at all???

Any other ideas?

The best idea is do what Len at the other forum you posted on said to do, call Devilbiss.

Will do,
I just wanted to use it to spray today or tomorrow, and the customer service center isn't open until Monday morning. I thought maybe a reduced spray pattern could be caused by a common problem and that someone may have run into something over the years that seems to cause this exact problem. It really shouldn't be dependent on the brand of gun, they all work with basically the same technology (Iwata excluded).

I would completely dissemble and soak the gun in cleaner then scrub the parts lightly with soft brushes pay good attention to fan adjustment valve.
Bet you got a bunch of clear built up in there.

Hey there Coletrain,
I noticed that you are in my area and we use the same gun... if you want we can compair notes on the gun.... I have GREAT luck using it. That is if you never got it to where you like it.

Hey coletrain, what was the final fix for your 670 plus spray gun fan issue? I have the same problem, it's driving me crazy. Thanks

Bill
