I thought I`d pass this along, its a video I did a while ago and figure some of the polishing newcomers would benefit from it:

You move your buffer way to fast across the panel. It should be at a rate of one foot every two seconds.
Another thing guys,,,,make sure you drape the cord over your shoulder and down your back so you dont scratch the fender while you are buffing the hood. Ive seen a lot of guys do that.

That Makita sure sounds like it's flying, what RPM setting are you running it at?

Sorry for the late reply, just seen this. I usually it set around 1500-2000 rpm, usually on the slower side for finishing, It probably sounds a lot higher because there is some sort of problem with the machine....brushes or something.....not sure what, need to send it in.

You need to pack grease in the cavity where the ring gear and pinion are. It will quiet it down a lot! I do it to all of mine.........
Tap on it with a rubber hammer while its running.

Im sure you blow it out with air where the brushes are. You also do this while its running.
