Jim how long did you let base coat sit b4 clear? by the dates on the pics it was 9 days.
Definitely eliminates any possibility of trapped solvents!

Like how you put clear outside to cure in UV Rays :goodjob:

The date on the pics is accurate, however I did spray 3 coats of base and spaced them out because I knew it would be a while before my clear arrived. It was at least 4 days between the last coat and the clear.

Finished the cut and buff work on the body today:

I thought it was important to point out because so many of us think that we have to rush to get the clear on the Base coat, At least I always have, thinking I needed a chemical bond when in fact its not true if your adding a Bit of the clears activator to the Base coat.
Better to let the Base sit a bit and fully gas out.

The Clear looks Amazing! Mirror finish! Really nice job! :goodjob:  :worthy:

How ya liking that Spit now?

Taped off the chrome (?) and repainted the black on these quarter panel emblems. The chrome on the one looks a bit lighter than the other. Doubt anyone will ever notice since they are on opposite sides of the car, however it still bothers me.

Really like that color when the clear is laid down like this. Guy that I see at one of our shows now and then has this color but his clear just makes it look so muddy.

She's looking absolutely gorgeous. I'm looking forward to seeing her all put together.

How did you mount the emblems?

They have pins on the back side that go through holes in the quarter panel.
I had to make new rubber washers for them and purchased new thread cutting nuts for the pins.

Wow ! Looking really good.

Q in reference to your time allowed between bc and cc. I was under the assumption that cc was to go on after bc flash time, meaning all within the same day. I see that you waited several days.

That lead me to researching and I found that some have waited days to months to cc after bc.

Knowing this, is there any prepping of the bc for the bonding of the cc when one waits a week or 2 to cc such as tacking off ? I can only imagine that if one waited a month that it would need washing too.

I went back and looked at the paint TDS that I used on my '93 jeep and it only stated to "allow basecoat to set up for 15 minutes prior to clear coating".
