Got to play with my new toy today.......no not the car LOL The light 8O

A nice shiny new and very bright Metal Halide with a 4200K 150W globe
The same set up as Mario. (Thanks Mario for your help with the brands etc)

This is simply a huge step above the normal Halogen lamps we have been using but then for the price so the should be. I mounted mine to the old tripod that came with the halogens and while this will do for the time being a nice photography tripod like marios would be nice.

The MH lamps dont really show much more then the Halogens they just seem to show up the defects a lot more clearer, making it easier to fix.
Really seemed to show up all those nasty random scratches we seem to get a lot clearer then the halogens making them easier to see therfor easier to fix, didnt have to take it our side to check which was lucky as we had hardly any sun all day, a little bit for one of the before shots and that was it.

Car looks great!
Can't those bulbs just be put into the Halogen Fixtures? They appear to be the same style fixture from what I can see in the photos.

Been doing some research on lighting myself. Here are a few good
threads and sources:

http://www.autopia.org/forum/detailer-s ... m5300.html

I have a Commercial Electric 1200w halogen work light.
It's bright but not quite satisfied with it. Then i bought the Infratech
CM5300, mainly for indoor color matching and to check for coverage.
Yet to try it out... Next up will be a MH unit too. Maybe...

A few weeks ago, i was repolishing a car (the Lexus ES300) and it
was getting late. The sun went down before i could finish. Very
frustrating! Had enough, so i'm on a quest now. :)

DBS,

Who is Mario? And what brand did you get? Can you post a pic
of your MH setup?

LOL, who is Mario?
Thats funny I didnt realise that was there. I post on another Aussie Detailing forum and then copy and paste over here. Just forgot I had mention of him.

He is another detailer in Australia that has been using this system for sometime now. Its only recently that they have become what I call affordable.

'68 - They wont fit as they are much bigger the the Halogens I thought they were the same size aswell, and the guy at the shop kept saying its big are you sure you need that much light. Im like yeah mate shell be right. **** when I opened the box I almost fell over. Im used to it now and everything is okay. They also have there own Ballast that run the lamps so even changing a between 70W and 150W doesnt work.

Han - I think the check light you have would be a similar unit as the 3M sungun uses a metal halide setup but much smaller

Ill find the link to this lamp and post later in the evening.

There are a few on this page my one is the one on the far right.

But since getting it I think the seperate light with a seperate ballast might be worth considering as the ballast is heave and being a meter and a bit off the ground on a tripod can be a bit dicey at times. The other way you could mount the lamp up the top and the heavy ballast at the bottom of the tripod.

Any way here is the link.

Thanks!

Yes, these units can be pricey. Hm... just got an idea; some have a
magnetic base which i can mount to the booth walls.
