Hello all, I'm a new member. This is one of my more recent projects. The car belongs to one of my son's friends. My son and his friend drove the car from Arkansas to Michigan for me to paint it.
I want to start by saying that I did Not mount that body kit. It was a hack job done by a local body guy down south, so the kids brought it to me. The car, in my opinion, came a long way from where it was when the kit was first put on. The front bumper was cut in half! The kit was cheap, and poorly molded. The entire front clip is fiberglass, and virtually all the panels were from different vendors from the doors forward.
I didn't want to post ALL of the process pictures, but if anyone is interested I will gladly do so. I'm located in Flint, Michigan.
Now for the finished product after paint, wash, buff, wash, and wax.

Yes it was, took me almost a month exactly working on it every day (while maintaining a day job painting utility trucks). Thanks for the warm welcome.

Welcome!
Always great to have new members on board. I so don't like messing with ill fitting kits. And most that bring in the stuff have no idea what's involved to getting it to look/fit right. I used to take time and explain things as to why i have to charge what i charge. Now, i just turn down the job. A man can do all things if he but wills them.

Thanks for the replies, guys. The fox body in the background is my nephew's, painted that just before I did the ZX2. I'll get some good pictures of that one as soon as I can.
That 'ill-fitting kit' was a big PITA but I have to admit it was a pretty fun challenge. We made it work, and made it look pretty good in the process. |
I don't mind the challenge at all. But very few are willing to pay for that challenge. I'd guesstimate at least 4 grand for that job...
Anyhow, looks good from here! A man can do all things if he but wills them.

Hahaha, it wasn't cheap, without a doubt. I know guys around here that refuse glassing a kit to a car, prepping, and painting for less than $6,000.
And, as far as the fox body in the background is concerned, I'll hunt down some pics and add them in here. Last edited by ritualsin on Wed Oct 08, 2008 1:56 am, edited 1 time in total.

Here's the Mustang that's in the background in the one picture of the ZX2. Some of the pics aren't that great, and the car is quite dusty in some of the pictures from doing prep work on other cars while this one sat in the shop, lol.
When the kid bought the car: During the paint process... sorry no pics of the prepwork or of me actually shooting the car... This is right after the last coat of clear: And this is the car after buffing, but, as I said, covered with dust from prepping other cars in the shop without covering it: The girl in the one picture is my daughter. Girls love their mustangs! Hahaha |
