Reminds me of a sidewall of the Grand Canyon!
Maybe they couldn't find a replacement 1/4 panel at the time....didn't have the internet back then.
And the owner couldn't afford the labor costs to reshape the existing.....just a guess.
That is some thick mud....I like how they ran out, and it became two-toned
Must have mixed that quantity with a drill and paddle...LOL.

Don't sweat it, Life's too short!

Well it looks like this car is finally going home.
Started out as a "freshen up" with an understanding that it would be just a driver. The dull spots in the left center of pictures are actually from a smudge on my camera lens that I didn't notice until now. 1968 Coronet R/T

Nice job, how did the second round with the chrome plater turn out? Problems like that and the grinding marks and waves some platers put in, is why I decided to prepare my own chrome cores. I know some platers do excellent work, but they charge excellent fees for doing that.

Plating took 3 months the first time, 3 months the second time and looked no better. The third time out was another 6 weeks but the guy quoted them way too high.
I ended up "dressing" the chrome up as much as I could and installing it anyway. 1968 Coronet R/T

Wow! That came out great Jim. I bet the owner is thrilled with the results. I looked back at page one of this thread, the original pictures, and the transformation is incredible.
Really nice job, congratulations! -Chris |

Thanks Chris. His first comment to me when he saw the car sitting in the driveway was, "hey, that's not the car I brought here!"
He already mentioned doing another car only this one will be a show car project. 1968 Coronet R/T

Excellent work, I cant wait to see your other projects. |
Thanks. I appreciate all the kind words. The car was a real "project" for sure.
I plan to work on the R/T for a while now and will post some pictures as I go. It is well past the paint and body stage but often the detail work on older restorations is the most difficult part. Jim 1968 Coronet R/T
