Finally got back to the running boards. I decided to work smarter and not harder. My brother-in-law has access to a huge sheet metal brake so I gave him the dimensions and he had some co workers bend them up out of 14 gauge. They are heavy duty. I used some templates I had made and cut the curves out. I also welded three small 1/8” plates and some studs on the underside for mounting. I have a little finessing left and also have to make the filler piece to the front fender but I’m extremely pleased with how this one turned out. It’ll look a lot better after I get it primed. I’m planning on starting on the other side tomorrow. I’m thinking of adding a few aluminum trim strips later on.

 I wanted to remove the mill scale on the running boards before priming so I covered them with paper towels, soaked that with vinegar and covered in plastic overnight. This is what it looked like this morning. I then scrubbed a little with scotch brite, pressure washed and then DA’d with 80 grit before priming. I’ll probably add some strips on it to hopefully take away from some of the squareness.
I went to a car cruise tonight and now have 300 miles on it. Really like the 8.8 read end.

I’m modifying the headlight buckets because I want the headlights to be recessed instead of sticking outward. I’ll be using 56 truck trim bezels.
To get the buckets to set in deeper I had to make some metal rings and then weld on some bolts so the depth of the buckets can be adjusted. The metal ring assembly will be epoxied on the inside of the fiberglass panel.

Epoxied and clamped in place. No turning back now!

Running Boards look great and I really like the recessed headlight idea.

On my 41 Ford I glued down a Rubber mat too the Top of the running boards so they wouldn't get all scratched up by feet.

If you could find someone with a Bead roller you could Put some contour into them to strengthen them and put a design into them as well.

I’m not sure how well a bead roller would work on these as they’re thick at 14 ga.
I’m planning on kinda mimicking beads with aluminum strips. Thanks for the advice :goodjob:

Still need to modify how the trim rings attach. They’re temporarily in place right now. They’re not setting completely flush but man do I love how they look. Also took some better overall pics with a camera and not my image distorting iPhone. :-X04

Thank you sir. It’s really a lot more fun working on the details instead of major fabrication hurdles.

Surprise! Surprise! Surprise! Right after I got both running boards installed I started hearing a rattle at certain times. It wasn’t constant. After checking the running boards and other possible things underneath I determined it might be the flywheel. I took the inspection cover off and saw what I thought was a crack close to the crank bolts. I dropped the tranny and sure enough I think this qualifies as a broken flywheel. Supposed to have a new flywheel around 7 this evening so hopefully after a late night it’ll be back on the road tomorrow.
