I had this crazy idea one day that I wanted to learn Auto body/restore a car . So I bought the green one and learned the hard way that frames can rot out. So I found the gold one which has some good things about it like a frame and appeared to be in better shape. I unfortunately I bought one that had a vinyl top, peeled it and found some rust damage. Not to sure how bad the rust is, I need to get all the chrome off and windshield out and investigate. Any way thought I would signed up to a site like this so I can post pics and if I'm doing something really dumb some one can point it out. Thanks.

Welcome.

A couple of suggestions for your restoration project.
1. Take lots of pictures for reassembly purposes. Put them in easy to locate and identify folders on your computer.
2. Keep lists, one for new parts needed, one for parts to be repaired/restored and one for supplies/materials needed. Another key list is Reassembly order. Knowing which parts go in before others can save you a lot of work.

If you haven't already please read this: http://www.autobody101.com/content/arti ... ould-know/

There are other great articles in the Info Center and Sticky Posts at the top of each forum that will help you as well.

Have not worked on the actual Galaxie yet. Just bought some things, Bought a old Ir compressor 28 cfm, a decent cheaper paint gun( internet reviews), sanding blocks hammers and some used air tools, sanders grinders, ect. Picked a old fan up from the scrap yard. Thought I might need 2 fans but this one seems to move quite a bit of air. Its a lot nicer to weld in my garage with the fan on now. I got rid of a lot of clutter and junk hanging around my garage/storage shed, two pick up truck loads.
I built a room in the corner of my garage where the furnace is and put the compressor in there, There is a door to the outside in that room I open for fresh air. The Room has vapor barrier in it to seal it completely off. When I parked my 1994 Chevy long box in there I had 4 1/2 feet on one side and 5 feet on the other side I bought some car dollies and could move my truck pretty easy side to side which will help if I need more room while I am working.
I also added 2 more lights and now have 8 4'x2builds t8's and it still feels like I do not have enough light. Beside a water trap/dryer and side projects I keep taking on I will be ready to start working on the car.

I'll be following this.

Nice car; I'm more partial to the 65-66 Galaxies, but the 68 has a classic look to it, too.

What's the drivetrain? 390/C6?

What's your welding setup?

Also, did you keep the car with the rotted frame to use for parts?

yea I Like the 65-66 galaxies as well. The only 68's I have seen in the last 3 years are mine. The car is 390/ fmx/ 9 inch. But I see c6's on Craig's list a lot for 150$ about, My trans leaks lots of oil so I will see what kind of of shape its in and maybe swap it. My welding set up is Lincoln 180M 240v.
-I kept the car with the rotted out frame because it has all the parts to make a green interior power disc brakes, windows. It also has 302 set up if I want to go the sbf way.

I don't know much about the FMX, but I don't think there is a lot of aftermarket support for it.

I would certainly keep the 390 over the 302. You need some torque to get that big car moving, and a 302 just doesn't have it. Lots of aftermarket support for FE's these days -- I would ditch the iron heads and intake and go with a dual plane intake and some aluminum heads. Maybe a 3.55 gear, 10" converter, and a cam with duration of 280 or a bit less. Easy to get more cubes, too -- with a 428 crank, same rods, and new pistons, you can get 410 cid or maybe 428 if the block will take that much of an overbore. Check out Survival Motorsports for all things FE.

Hey people I'm still slowly working away on my restoration project. I also picked up another car. It has 83000 miles on it is in really good shape. But has some small issues that I would like to fix so I think Ill start another post for it.
