Started stripping the paint on the left side of the truck bed. Immediately ran into heavy filler and knew something bad was about to be revealed:


After a few more minutes Swiss cheese:


The chips layers tell a story:


I am not sure what the gray layer is. Kind of reminds me a paper or asbestos type material:


Here's some more thick filler on the wheel arch:


The hinge covers and cowl grill I was able to get into my blast cabinet:



Dismantled the front grill, removed the headlight buckets and did some hammering on the dents.



I am going to have the windshield and rear window pulled out so I can access those areas properly.

whats your plan for the body line crease?...mine is showing signs of slight rust in there and looks hard to get to....local guy here says he uses seam sealer in that crease

I will media blast the rust out, prime with epoxy and then seam seal.
BTW, looks like a nice project you have there. Be sure to start a thread so we can follow your progress.

I tried your Razor heat gun method on some bike parts I'm doing worked good.

What are you planning to do with the truck bed? Find a replacement or repop sides? It looks brutal, whoever did the mud work was quite the sculptor.

I want to get it all stripped and then formulate the plan of attack.
Most of the metal is sound and it seems the shop that did the work liked the short cut method of "pound it in and fill it" whenever there was an area needing repair.

The razor and heat gun work great whenever there is multiple layers of paint or filler under the paint. Not such a time saver when its simply paint over primer.

Got the left side of the bed sanded:

No Swiss cheese like the other side but still had some heavy filler on the wheel arch:

Had a guy drop this off the other day. I had told him on the phone it would be at least 4 months before I can even look at it. He said, I want to be next in line so can I bring it over?
