Here is my current project, a 69 Chevelle SS396 Convertible

Loading it up for the 3 hour trip back to the shop,

Image

Lets not forget the 396,...

Image

Back at the shop,...

Image

Starting the strip down,...

Image

Had to wear PPE for the rats nest under the drivers seat, yuck!

Image

Image

Yep, she's gonna need floor pans and braces,...

Image

Up Up and Away!

Image

Image

At first the customer wasn't intending on painting the car as it was never put on the road after the last paint job, maybe 10-15 years ago? But upon closer inspection and since we were tearing it apart to fix the structural issues we got the go ahead. It was a really bad paint job...

Image

The bottoms of the fenders and rockers were very dry and rusty...

Image

Frame getting some much needed attention,...

Image

All painted up and getting new front end installed,...

Image

Cutting out the cancer,...

Image

Image

New pans going in,..

Image

More rot under the windshield,...

Image

Sooo much better!

Image

The 396 getting cleaned up. This is in really good shape, no machining to be done, just new gaskets and a paint job.

Image

Old cowl removed for the replacement piece,...

Image

Image

Getting welded in place,...

Image

Etch primer,...

Image

Painted up,...

Image

The 396 looking like an engine again,...

Image

This is where it sits now, just did the door and trunk jambs. Next week we fit the doors and trunk, install the drivetrain and front clip and it's in the booth for final paint!

Nice work.
Whenever someone tells me they have a convertible to restore, the first thing I tell them is it will probably need new floor pans and supports.
Looks like you had some serious rocker panel rust as well.

Thanks, the outer rockers were replaced during the last paint job. The inner rockers needed some work for sure.

Looks great! How long did it take from the trailer to your final picture?

Was that an after market Cowl you used or was it a Original piece salvaged from another car?
Also Are you Painting Frame pieces or are they being Powder coated? What type of Paint are you using?
Also On the Floors you did are you leaving the E coat as is or are you painting over it?
Again if Painting over it what are you using ?

As always though Great work You and Your Team work extremely Fast .
Would like to have seen how you did the inner rocker repairs before installing the floor.

It's a reproduction from Dynacorn.

All the frame and suspension parts were epoxy coated and painted with urathane.

BC/CC for the colour sold under the Nason label.

We scuffed it and painted it over with etch on the bare spots and TremClad semi-gloss

Thanks,

The inner rockers were weak where the cross braces attach and at the front under the firewall. All I did was cut out the rust and but weld in the six rectangular patches and rebuilt the front where required.
