Here is my current project, a 69 Chevelle SS396 Convertible
Loading it up for the 3 hour trip back to the shop,
Lets not forget the 396,...
Back at the shop,...
Starting the strip down,...
Had to wear PPE for the rats nest under the drivers seat, yuck!
Yep, she's gonna need floor pans and braces,...
Up Up and Away!
At first the customer wasn't intending on painting the car as it was never put on the road after the last paint job, maybe 10-15 years ago? But upon closer inspection and since we were tearing it apart to fix the structural issues we got the go ahead. It was a really bad paint job...
The bottoms of the fenders and rockers were very dry and rusty...
Frame getting some much needed attention,...
All painted up and getting new front end installed,...
Cutting out the cancer,...
New pans going in,..
More rot under the windshield,...
Sooo much better!
The 396 getting cleaned up. This is in really good shape, no machining to be done, just new gaskets and a paint job.
Old cowl removed for the replacement piece,...
Getting welded in place,...
Etch primer,...
Painted up,...
The 396 looking like an engine again,...
This is where it sits now, just did the door and trunk jambs. Next week we fit the doors and trunk, install the drivetrain and front clip and it's in the booth for final paint!
cheers

Nice work.
Whenever someone tells me they have a convertible to restore, the first thing I tell them is it will probably need new floor pans and supports. Looks like you had some serious rocker panel rust as well. 1968 Coronet R/T

Was that an after market Cowl you used or was it a Original piece salvaged from another car? Also Are you Painting Frame pieces or are they being Powder coated? What type of Paint are you using? Also On the Floors you did are you leaving the E coat as is or are you painting over it? Again if Painting over it what are you using ? As always though Great work You and Your Team work extremely Fast . Would like to have seen how you did the inner rocker repairs before installing the floor. Dennis B.

It's a reproduction from Dynacorn.
All the frame and suspension parts were epoxy coated and painted with urathane.
BC/CC for the colour sold under the Nason label.
We scuffed it and painted it over with etch on the bare spots and TremClad semi-gloss
^^
Thanks, The inner rockers were weak where the cross braces attach and at the front under the firewall. All I did was cut out the rust and but weld in the six rectangular patches and rebuilt the front where required. cheers Good judgement comes from experience, and often experience comes from bad judgement.
