So I'm looking to tackle painting my 2002 Mazda Miata. This will be a first for me and I'm hoping to use this as a question/progression thread. I'd like to keep the car the same color and paint the hardtop and mirrors black.

Paint is ruined from previous owner trying to wrap the car himself and hardtop was plastidip'ed by the fellow I bought it from (figured I was going to be painting anyways)

My first step will be to strip the paint.
I'd like to take it one panel at a time (off of the car). Am I crazy? My thinking is I could produce better results (time is not a huge issue)

I did a 1990 Miata a while back. Here is link that you may or may not find helpful: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=24358

Thank you, the link was helpful. Helped me to realize I don't need to remove all the panels

I was lent some tools to help get me started:
Devilbiss FLG3
Ingersoll Rand 311A
Various sanding blocks
and lots of consumables

I still have a lot of reading to do so this project will start out slow.

That brings me to my next question: What will be the best method to go about filling these holes left behind by the factory body kit?

Thanks in advance

I would use a MIG welder.

There is a lot of good information on the Info Center page.
Also, at the top of each forum, like Body and Paint, there are sticky posts related to commonly asked questions.

Great information on the Metal Fabrication and Welding section also.
