Got some bad news today. The disc brakes on my car are not factory. Since the calipers are mounted in front and not in the rear like the factory option. Appears someone swapped out the control arms, deleted the anti-sway bar and stuck 1970 calipers on there.
I did get more of the car stripped down:

Dismantled the hood so I can get all the rust out.
You can see in this picture the inner support at the bottom of the picture was loose and moving around. All in all it doesn't look too bad for a 50 year old car. 1968 Coronet R/T

I'm not known as a Mopar man, but I like em. I like em so much in fact, back in 76 I took out my first loan. It was $2g to build a hot rod. Spent it on a 69 Charger. But I digress in memories. I admire the depth of where your going and like others, looking forward to seeing more results of the progress.

Removed the center support to reveal the problem bolt and nut. You can also see the remnants of the mouse nest I found under there.

Your a brave man I would be afraid to take a hood apart like that. How do you plan on Jigging that up to hold it square while welding it back together? Dennis B.

My plan is to weld the supports to the inner structure. This will ensure they are in the proper locations based on spot weld holes.
Then I will apply the adhesive (Fusor Flexible Foam ) in the same places as the factory did based on pictures I took and measurements. At that point I will put the skin back on the structure starting at the front lip area where it hooks over the structure and then position it by clamping along the perimeter edges. The skin is only welded on at the edges, the inner structure is attached by the adhesive and the inner structure is contoured to support the skin's shape. That's the plan anyway, we will see how it goes. My plan is to post pictures of everything I do on this car. This will be photo documentation of the restoration and also a help to others considering having the car restored or doing it themselves. 1968 Coronet R/T

Thanks guys. A long way yet to go and by the looks of things a LOT of money.
I am missing the ashtray door that slides up and down and is padded. Apparently a one year only production item for the '68 Dodge R/T and Plymouth GTX. The best price I've found for a used door is $195. The whole set up is selling on eBay at $268 and these need complete restoration. Might have to try my hand at fabrication here soon. Another major expense is the lower control arms and sway bar. Whoever put the disc brakes on the front didn't get the proper kit and swapped out the lower control arms. Then there is the missing radio, etc. 1968 Coronet R/T
