Look at right side Hinge pin looks like its pulling threw loose & rocking with a small crack
See if some one on Morparts.com will post pics of theirs?

Left side yes looks like some one been hitting on it and some welding.

But right side that Hinge pin looks loose probably causing the popping sound your hearing.

Looking at both something wrong? looks like on is from a later or early model, Some one might have replaced that left one at some point and never did the right side?

You could tighten up the adjustment to center hole with the rod too but if that hing is shot it will just make it worse.

I am in same boat all my daily drivers keep breaking down and House needs help badly.
All I can do is one thing at a time and only on my days off.

Wife keeps trying to hire Handy man that over charges Pisses me off because they dont do things the way I want it done. Then hes making bids on jobs like a Contractor would. That's illeagal here

Neighbor hired guy to put and new floor in his mobile home trailer under his toilet they installed it cut in half instead of using a hole saw to cut the toilet drain like they were supposed to do I told him it wasn't right that we need to redo it, that the toilet would tip over or fall through floor he didn't listen and guess what happened?

Started fixing some dents in my trunk lid and then noticed there was some runs on the inside at the very back of the lid where the trim panel mounts.

My guess is years of moisture creeping in around the mounting studs.

Remembering how bad the hood skin was, I decided to remove the deck lid skin as well.

Was only able to get three sides done before calling it quits.

I used an air chisel to get under the lip and lift it enough to grab with pliers and bend out to 90 degrees. What really surprised me was that there were no spot welds. I saw what I thought were welds and drilled 3 along the first side I did but they were actually spot welds.

This is a picture along the front edge and you can see, no spot welds.

Here's a front corner where I thought for sure there was a spot weld but again nothing.

Hoping to get the skin off tomorrow.

Got the skin off the frame today. Didn't find any spot welds in the process but man am I glad I opted to take it apart.

The rust was a lot worse than I originally thought.

Took a picture of the adhesive locations for reference. Also drew a line down the center and took measurements for the globs not near any openings.

Used a propane torch with Mapp Gas to soften the globs (took just a few seconds) and then scraped them of with a chisel.

Straightened all the edges and dents with hammer and dolly. Then did a test fit to make sure they would go back together properly.

They are back apart now waiting to be media blasted and epoxy primed.

Wow, would never have guessed that the rust was starting to take over in there..... I know it was a pain but it was the right thing to do on a classic like this..... you'll have pic.s to show that it was done properly if you sell down the road.... most of the guys with restored rides at shows and cars/coffee I go to have flip books with pic.s in them like this....great work as usual....

Started media blasting the frame today. The colder temperatures kept causing condensation on the inside of the plastic view port. It was very slow going, having to stop and dry the thing off every couple of minutes.

Rain in the forecast for tomorrow, so I may need to wait a while longer before getting back at it.
