I have seen many pieces over the years as you describe and often thought how did they do that? What would be best way to do it?
Masking and cutting with razor will be the ultimate pain.

Almost like they painted whole thing then remove just the top with Laq. thinner?

Turns out the guy was wrong. '68 didn't have black according to some guys with original cars.

Got the switch panel installed today. The main problem was the speaker fader switch, something I never plan on using, but mine was missing. I only found one correct used one on eBay but the guy wanted $290+ dollars for it shipped. :shocked:

Another guy suggested I buy a potentiometer switch, so I did that for $12.95 and then paid $20 for a nice used knob. Had to grind a flat on the shaft for the knob to fit, but all in all it turned out pretty decent.

I would have done same thing.... $290 for a used switch some guys are Just A holes

Someone in the past had changed the interior color to black. The back armrests were still in good condition and I bought new ones for the front. Also had to get replacement sun visors. The "new to me" and reproduction parts only came in black so today I painted them the correct Teal Blue color using SEM Vinyl Pro paint in a mixed formula someone on the bbodiesonly website recommended.

The rear armrests were a bit smoother texture and hence the shine. Fortunately, once installed, they will be behind me.

Cleaned it up and sprayed adhesion promoter then two coats of clear.
Of course it didn't fix the mismatched color of the radio bezel but at least it shines now.

Installed the new Master Cylinder. It's a lot bigger than the old one but this is what they said I need because of the disc brakes on the front:

I ordered and installed an adjustable push rod for it. I fit perfectly and also makes good contact with the brake light switch.

I have the steering column in place but not fastened tightly at this point.

Finally got the left fender stripped. Had to weld up a split in the back edge and do some hammer and dolly work on the most obvious stuff. Then today I shoot the epoxy primer on the inside of the fender.

I really like shooting black epoxy on bare metal as it really makes all the issues with the panel stand out.
