I have been searching for a new project and had it narrowed down to one of three cars: a 1966 Pontiac GTO, a 1968 Corvette and this one. The GTO and Vette were missing too many parts and the GTX just came up for sale and was only 20 minutes away.

So here it is, scheduled for delivery on Friday morning:











The pictures were taken in front of a restoration shop where the guy charges $90 an hour for his labor. The owner had taken it there to be restored, they disassembled it but never did anything else. (Not the first story I have heard about this place.)
The owner said all the parts are there and labeled, he just doesn't have the ability or tools to put it back together.

good choice! the gettex has always been my favorite mopars. not sure what it is about em, but i love the style of em.
how long ya figger this one will take? a month? 2 months?

This is my car, so it will always be last on the list of things to get done.

I will work on getting it rust free first. Then the underside and engine compartment, after which I will reassemble the body and try to align everything. This will give me an idea of the problem areas.

Doesn't look dissembled in those pictures?
I Don't know how much you had to give for it but it doesn't look all that bad.
How bad is the Trunk, trunk Drop offs and lower quarters?

Here are pics of the couple of rust spots:




Nothing too serious. Underside, floors, trunk all looked pretty decent. I will take some pics once I get it here and cleaned up.

Dam that don't look to bad at all from the surface, it looks very easy repairable.
I will keep my fingers and Toes crossed for you!

I stripped out the carpet and found the floor pans to have a considerable amount of rust. Looks like the heater core may have been leaking:


Compare to driver's side:


Some damage to the floor can be seen on the rear driver's side. The floor pan is pushed up in some areas:


Doors have typical speaker installation hack work:


I am going to reassemble the fenders, trunk lid, hood, etc. and check for proper fit and alignment. Then I will strip the body completely and start media blasting so as to see what's really there.

Still taking inventory of parts delivered.
Everything on these Mopars is so expensive.
