That is a great idea! You can never have too many storage areas on a car....especially ones that are hidden out of sight. Great metal working here as usual.....

Quick update (got lots of snow removal to do!) Did the pockets for storage behind the wheel well. Built the shape out of foam board, with bondo to finish. Then a few coats of house paint to seal it, so the resin doesn't melt the foam. Then covered with 'glass.
Also did a gallon mix of the second color, after some trial and error. Looked good when painting the "speed shapes", but then I painted the firewall. I thought it came out a bit too dark, but the guys also think it looks too pink or peach-y. I might mix another small batch and try again.

Chop what kind of foam is that? I have a |Hard time finding hard foam to make shapes with?
Do you have a Vendor for it as well?

Excellent idea of using house paint to seal it with before coating in resign.

Dennis, it's just green insulating foam from Lowe's. Not sure of the brand, but any foam will work, except maybe the white Styrofoam. The little balls it's made up of don't like to cut/sand into finer shapes. Glued together easily, with regular Gorilla glue, too.

Looks good to me.....yeah, white foam= trouble.... melts, balls, water logs if you have even the smallest amount moisture in it..... Dennis, if you need a "bigger" piece of foam to carve up you can just use a foam safe panel adhesive and make up a big block from any of those other Home Depot foams (pinks, blues, greens, whatever). If you want to be a "purist" you can get any size at.... www.fiberglast.com A few of the larger marine/boat shops near me carry that yellow foam as well.

Undercarriage is finished. I cut out the spare tire well, and made a larger one, for the battery, and tools. Fixed rust, and rot, and one bad body mount. Put some rubber strips back in where there were old dry rotten ones, between the wheel wells and quarter. Moved one gas tank support, so I could use a 56 Chevy tank, none available for Olds. Had to severely modify the Chevy fill tube, though!.POR-15 and undercoat. Now I can put the body back on the frame.
Then I can sort out the engine,

[quote="chopolds"] . . .POR-15 and undercoat. . . /quote]

I have read many articles stating that POR-15 doesn't flex with the metal during temperature changes and has a tendency to crack and allow moisture in. That allows rust to occur under the coating which is not visible to the eye.

Never found the need to use it myself with Epoxy being available. Have you ever had any issues with it?

Drivetrain I'm keeping what the OP had in it. 455 Olds, Turbo 400, stock rear (they are very strong!). I just put 76 Impala backing plates on the rear, to get the 12 in. police package drum brakes. Alum. intake, Holley, and the headers with Quad exhaust are the only changes to the 455.
POR-15, been putting it on the backsides of any welded panels I do for over 35 years. I also usually put it on undercarriages, or inside floors, if they couldn't be blasted clean.. everything here in Jersey is rusty, over 8 years old! I know on my own cars, there's never been a problem. But I never put it under nice paint, on the outside of the car. And I often use different versions of POR, like Master Series, or Rust Bullet, interchangeably.

I feel terrible, haven't done much on the Olds in quite some time! The Quad exhausts took a ton of time in fitting and welding all those pipes. And I had other work to do. Bodywork and paint on my GF's car, that had hit a mailbox (actually 2 mailboxes, front and rear) and that a deer ran into the side of. Also doing body and paint on a 66 Skylark for a very good friend, who I've done 2 cars for already, and painted his Harley a couple times. AND helping my protégé Kenny, with advice mostly, on building a new frame for C4 Vette suspension under his 54 Plymouth.
Anyway, just to show I wasn't slacking, Here's some shots of the work on the Skylark. Going to be a real neat car!
