Hello everyone this is my first project thread. I picked up a pretty rare 1986 T-Top GT about 8 years ago as a future restoration project. Well, with corona virus shutting down my son's school, I saw an opportunity to put him to work! He gets the car when we're done, so that keeps him motivated.
Here's what it looked like when I bought it after a paint correction. You can't see it in this pic, but it had the very faint milky look of pending clear coat failure on the hood and tops of the fenders:
It sat in the AZ sun for 8 years and eventually looked like this when we started:
My son likes the Ford Kona Blue Pearl so we picked up a gallon and painted an the hood of a '60 Falcon wagon as a test:
Instead of applying the black strip decal on the hood, we wanted to experiment with painting it on and then adding some red accent stripes so we sanded the clear and laid out a test stripe and re-cleared:
We also are building a 331 stroker to go in after paint is done:
We have most of the car stripped and ready for epoxy primer - more pics to come soon!

Beautiful color

Thanks - My son picked it out, I'm afraid it's a little dark for dusty Arizona but it should look great when cleaned up |

Got most of the body stripped - hoping to shoot epoxy primer in a few days
We got the bumper cover stripped and primed: Also the hood: |

That will be a sharp looking ride when finished.

I always swore I'd have red show cars since they wear dust pretty well and still look good. |
|
I have seen that when down in the valley.
We live in Paulden, North of Prescott and get dust devils blowing about mostly. I had a black Harley Ultra Classic previously and it was a nightmare to keep clean. I now have a Gray Pearl colored Fat Boy Lo and it looks good even when I know it's dirty. Our car is a beige color and so is my F250 which means they stay dirty longer. 1968 Coronet R/T

I'm jealous of your location, would love to live near Prescott and Jerome. You know you live in AZ when the choice of vehicle color is driven by how it will look with dust all over it LOL |

1st round of blocking on the hood with 180. Overall I think it's pretty straight. Gonna hit it with another 2 wet coats of epoxy tomorrow
My son spent the last couple of weeks with the wire brush and die grinder stripping. Ready for 2 coats of epoxy tomorrow: Almost past the least fun part |

Shot some epoxy primer today
Next up - paint and clear the jambs |
