So I'm going in for the "kill" on the wing this weekend. I've now put 3 coats of the Tamco 2104 clear on it.....let that cure for just about 4 days under infra-red. I've now dry machine sanded with 600 grit sandpaper. I then put 1 coat of Tamco 895 intercoat clear (this is just clear basecoat) on to "eyeball" how things were looking. And, we are good. I have now taken Tamco's Jet Black and done a "halo" fade around my edges. The idea here is to give the chameleon pearl more "pop" at those edges compared to the areas of carbon fiber that will also have that pearl on them. So another coat of intercoat sealed that black in for now. Tomorrow I will do the pearl coating and move back into another coat of the 2104 to see how we are looking. If things look good I'll finish up with the Matte clear.
Just a side note I'm going to share some interesting things about doing this all with turbine finishing. I'll be putting that over in equipment here in a few days. Those of you using 4, 5, or 6 stage turbines should check that out.

ME TOO! Did I say that loud enough? I enjoy finishing so much I might rush something like this but nope, got to slow down and keep eyeballing the "look." I really want this to look like "part" of the truck and not just a novel add on.......

And into the pearl we go.... This is about a half teaspoon of the Chameleon pearl powder added to 10 ounces of the mixed intercoat (mix ratio on intercoat is 1 to 1 with reducer). I started with the wing upside down to "practice" my color stroking. What I like to do is set my turbine gun to spray about the size of about a half dollar. I still like the full air pressure, just dialing down the fluid and click stopping the air cap for a round pattern. I then stroke that into the black edges I had done previously. I then go back to a full fan with my fluid supply about 1/2 open to do full coats of the pearl. After getting that "under wing" area looking good. I ended up shooting about 2 ounces of that pearl mix underneath and 4 ounces on the outside. I used more of that pearl to especially get those edges to highlight better in full sun.
Okay, so where I am at now is 2 full wet coats of Tamco 2104 hardened clear. I think we'll call that a done session and do the matte clear coat separately. I have to just wait a 12 hour minimum before wet sanding and going into that final matte clear. Now something I was hoping with this effect is already happening. When you are starting to walk up to the wing you see these intense colors and just a little of the underlying carbon fiber. When you get on top of it boom!.... the colors kind of draw back and you see the full carbon fiber with it's own colors underneath. Darn, makes me want to do a whole car like this! Uhhhh.....I didn't say that outloud did I????

So I let the last coat of the 2104 euro clear set for about 20 hours. These are pic.s with nothing done any further. My next steps will be 600 and then 2 to 3 coats of the Tamco Matte Clear. Couldn't resist just running it out in what little sun we had here today. Also got a few good inside pic.s.

Great "pearly" look! Where did you get the chameleon pearl?

I've been dealing with Paint With Pearl for about 12 years now. As far as dry pearls go I think their stuff disperses the best in pearl/intercoat carriers. Also, if you've never tried the Tamco 895 intercoat it has now become my favorite pearl carrier. If you look at a clear cup of the mixed intercoat you can see the pearl staying "up" in the mix.
I'm using this specific pearl..... https://www.paintwithpearl.com/shop/cus ... ls-4779bp/ Metal, wood, fiberglass, we work it all... www.furniturephysicians.com We can restore the irreplaceable!

Are you using a full 25 grams per quart of intercoat clear?
I have some pearl that I bought from these guys but it is still sitting in my cabinet. 1968 Coronet R/T
