I busted out a bit more prep on the Camaro this week.
Made some good progress I believe.
I sanded the nose down after hitting it with the epoxy and 2K, and then sprayed another coat of 2K.
I'm considering this part done as we are not looking for show quality and the schedule is tight, with "done enough" for me is in my cousin's opinion "going way overboard".
This thing needs to be on the track mid-March (hopefully we can race in March).
I also plan to repaint the roll cage and prepping that will take a lot of work due to the old enamel and black paint over top of it >>> its a mess.
The interior will get painted with a light gray SS paint.
I am going to prep everything to 400 dry and then go BC/CC.
Whole car in white, then sand mask and paint the red and then sand mask and paint the blue; with a couple coats of clear at each step.
I will paint most of the parts in white off the car, reassemble it and then mask and paint the red and blue.
We got the car outside to have enough room to get the doors off
Two little hinges hold them on, they are fiberglass.
We will be replacing the worn out polycarbonate windows.
Disassembly is a breeze when everything is held on with dzus fasteners.
A guy that will be helping with the roof swap came by to look at it and we have a plan.
I will work to prep the two roofs by doing the heavy grinding and melting the lead out
He shattered his wrist so he will be the brains behind the operation and we will be doing the work.
We will have to remove the Lexan windshield that has about 30 screws and rivets holding it in, and the rear window, and hope to be ready for that by the first of the year.
I got the doors and trunk prepped with epoxy and 2K
I have the hood prepped for epoxy.
Just hitting everything with a light coat of epoxy after sanding because of the variety of paint materials on the car (BC/CC / Red Enamel / Black Enamel with hardener)
Thanks for looking

Here are some pictures of the fiberglass repair I had to do on the front of the drivers door.
It was right at the belt line on the door so there was that profile to follow plus it is rounded off in the front. I gouged out a recessed area on the inner and outer surface of the door to allow for the thickness of the fiberglass cloth. After the first layer cured, I found there was a small air pocket so I cut a hole in the "bubble" mixed up some more resin and cut some of the cloth into strands since I did not have any mat to use and then filed the bubble and mounded some of my chop over it. The next day I ground it down and filled it with some regular filler The profile in the center of the doors had lots of nicks that really required a lot of sanding over the edge wo that will get several coats of primer to build it up and sand the profile back in JT |

Here are some more progress pictures and an update.
This past weekend I got the T-tops out and prepped for removing the roof. I got the Lexan windshield out and laid down a bunch of epoxy and 2K on what I had prepped. The two quarter panels and PS door jamb is all thats left other than changing out the roof. Oh and prepping the cage >>> that should be fun. I purchased the white and red paint as the major and accent colors. Both are a factory pack type base coat and I also picked up a gallon of some mid grade clear. The white is a GM fleet type white (Olympic / Summit White) code 50 and the red is another GM color Victory Red. I just have to find a solid blue base to use for the stripe. I can get one mixed but at twice the price, and thought to just use a non-metallic blue SS and just clear over that >>> what say you guys? It would be a urethane product. I plan to get the inside of the doors and trunk sprayed this weekend. Santa's bringing me a new gravity fed Turbine gun a Titan Maxum Elite gravity fed unit. I'm going to keep that a gun for clear. Some pictures: Hood in Epoxy More prep on the doors, these are ready to go Drivers Side The nose of the car is ready to sand and paint Thanks for looking JT |

Over the course of the last wo weeks I have had plenty of time to work on the Camaro.
I took last week off and had the holidays off too. I got the inside of the doors and the trunk lid painted after Christmas and it was nice to have the dedicated clear gun to paint with. I also prepped the hood a bit more and sprayed it this past weekend. But the biggest chunk of work completed was on the roof swap. We had a guy that was displaced from his shop due to the Covid and he came by to give some tips and play along to a limited degree due to having shattered his wrist a couple weeks back. With the roof off, I spend time prepping the floor and the cage I prepped the underside of the roof with epoxy I had to make a repair at the front of the roof on the PS of the windshield. I had plans to salvage the roof in case someone could use it but it had to offer up some material to make the repair, not shown this picture, but you can see it above |

The color scheme is going to be based on the one on the 1981 Reher and Morrison Camaro raced in Pro Stock It will be primarily white with a red band along the bottom of the car and a blue stripe. The hood scoop and surrounding area were painted the red color as well. In our case the cowl induction scoop is about the size of the overall red area on the original so it was painted like that. A blue stripe will follow although a bit different due to the two hatch doors in the front for fueling.

This past weekend involved mostly prep for a big push this week to get things painted at least with the white base and get to installing the hardtop roof
I got the roof in epoxy and 2K, this will be as far as I take it until the roof is installed other than painting the underside a gray that will be the majority if the interior. I sprayed the nose of the care one last time and began to do the final sanding. My plan is to paint the white this Friday night and come in on Saturday morning to shoot the clear. I believe this will be within the time frame More prep on the shell and cage. I sprayed the cage with a coat of white to see how it covered and how these little Preval sprayers would handle the paint. Mixed 2:1 they worked pretty good. I am going to use them in the areas that are difficult to get to with the gun. I'll scuff the white good and do one coat of the white to cover and then clear. Thanks for looking JT |
Looking good.

Your moving right along, To bad you had to cut up the T top I am sure you could have made a few Bucks off that. Its probably still repairable.
I never was a Fan of the T tops myself, Was super easy to break into the cars through them. Dennis B.
