Panels placed on car. I made sure it was carefully put into place no sliding moving around which would smear bond and could cause voids. I also put on rubber gloves and use finger to smooth out under side of wheel well for a smooth surface and better seal.

Thanks. I did same process on daughters '93 Honda Civic Si last year. So trying to step it up in terms of repair quality this second time around. Also no accident damage on this quarter panel which makes it a lot easier. |

Keep up updating ! Good information .Thanks. For sure this repair is not only going to be nice, but rustproof also !
PS : 6 years ago(2015) i gave my car to bodyman to patch the lower end of my quarter panels because they rusted. Same situation as this Civic. Today everything is still good. Nice color. Panel is streight. But in 2019 rusting started again at the same place. I guess he welded the lip ,he should have panel bonded it. |

The rear patch was butt welded together and weld smoothed out. More effort then I had thought had to jump a big gap and the angle to weld was awkward. Also put some initial tack welds on the patch around the wheel well.

I finished welding the patch to the quarter panel.

Applied fiber glass filler over weld seam. This will prevent moisture from getting to the seam from the outside. Smoothed it out and basic shape seems pretty good. Took several rounds of apply, sand, apply, repeat. Lot of curves in a lot of different directions so used various types of blocks to get the shape. Filler is pretty thin. Happy with the progress so far:

Sprayed some epoxy primer yesterday, then today blocked with 150 grit, and applied another coat. It will need more work to smooth it out but pretty good starting point.

Moving onto the passenger's side. Cut 1/4 panel to fit patch. Also cut patch to establish gap between patch and bumper cover. This time I did not over cut the patch where it meets bumper cover like I did on the other side.
