Thanks very much guys! I'm really starting to realize that I'm making this more full of potential problems. Altough the stock green is very nice; the group over at the Miata MB forum has a hard time identifying the exact paint code. British Racing Green, Grace Green, Emerald Green, etc are different names and slightly different shades among different manufacturers . The sticker on my passenger jamb id is 18J. But someone in the past has resprayed and I have no idea what color that was.

18J is called Grace Emerald Green for 01, and just Emerald Green
or Grace Green for other model years. Auto mfgs had different
names for the same color in different years for marketing reasons.
I guess they did surveys or something to figure out what sounded
best.

Anyway, no matter the name, 18J is the color it was born with.

It's a very deep green, and contains mica/pearl. It looks darker than
your pictures, almost black. Since it's been repainted with a color
change, you might have to search under a carpet or look closely in
the engine compartment to find a sample of the true original color.

If I can get the hood trunk and drivers door close, with stripes on the hood and trunk; I'd just settle for that with a new top. That was my original plan so so I'd have plenty of sunny weather to enjoy. Scuff, respray and clear. I still might. I could always go for the whole enchilada next year? I'm not really a purist.

That pic does look like 18J green, at least coming from a
computer screen.

Personally I like the color. And the wheels.

Its kinda growing on me. I wish it had a little flake in it though. Gold stripes should compliment it too. :goodjob:

You can add gold flakes to it. I like House ofKolor's Ultra mini-flake. small enough to mix in, and stay suspended, but enough to be seen in the paint. and add some glitz.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^Yeah, done that before.... simpler than changing or "creating" a color mix. Just record your measurements of what you add...

You can apply filler directly to the epoxy primer and block sand it feathering into surrounding epoxy.

Then you can shoot your 2k build primer, 2-3 coats waiting the proper flash times. When cured, apply guide coat and block sand to remove the guide coat.

Here you can see some of the black epoxy primer showing but no metal or low spots.

Shoot another round of 2k, guide coat and block sand to remove the guide coat and here you are:

I apply more guide coat and then wet sand with 600 and it's ready for sealer (optional) or paint.

I normally shoot a minimum of 3 coats of base. This helps ensure I have no color match issues.

Just curious; did you go with the epoxy primer because of excessive rust? Or the plastic bumpers'? And if so, woul epoxy as an undercoat be OK with the plastic bumpers?
