Hi all!

I just want to thank the community for your help. I sprayed epoxy, base, and clear in the engine bay this past weekend. This was my first time ever painting a car with these materials, and I dont think I could have done it without your answers.

Since I can't upload images directly, please feel free to check out my Instagram (@240z_restomod) as I have videos, pictures, and really the whole restoration up there.

Thanks again all!

You can post images in this text box.

Scroll down to where the black section is and choose the Upload Images tab. Next window, select the Choose File button. Find the file on your computer, select it and then hit the Open button.

Your file selection should now show in the Choose File box. Next click the Add the File button and then wait. The cursor will eventually jump back in this box.

Place the cursor where you want the image to be placed. Scroll down below this text box to where the file is and then select Place In Line.

Cool, it works! Thank you! Here are a few more.

The black stuff is the 3M asphalt undercoating over 1-day old DTM epoxy.

It will be interesting to see when it's done. Doesn't look like how I remember them but I never did own one.

Two things to note. This is a race car with some pretty unique chassis mods, so I think most OEM folks would have a hard time recognizing the rad support area for instance. Also, the front fenders on a Z are enormous. Like, jag XKE huge. So with them off, it is definitly hard to recognize!

The hood and hatch are fiberglass so the tube steel you see up front are for the front hood mounts which are quick-latch

Painted the interior today. Second time painting automotive paint. Flat black on everything driver-facing. The rest is silver. All products are Speedokote.
Hot-rod black, metallic silver base coat, clear cost

If anyone has some tips on polishing the clear, let me know! It’s the interior so it’s not worth a wet sand. Maybe some kind of a buff just to get rid of the dry-spray?

Interior has been completely refinished from bare-metal. First time ever spraying a car. I think it came out pretty good! Flat black in spots that are not prone to direct sunlight (heat sink) or are too close to the drivers field of view (glare).

All sprayable products from speedokote
“Hot rod” black two component single application acrylic urethane
Metallic silver base, clear coat urethane
DTM epoxy sealer
Enormous amount of hand sanding, scuffing, cleaning, and masking.

Engine bay has quite a bit of runs, but I learned and have nearly zero runs inside. Still struggling with orange peel but that’s a premium problem to have for a complete novice.

Thank you to all the folks who responded to my please. Special thanks to Chris for all the detailed explanations. Y’all are the best!

Two setups:

E-production class motor. Original L24 race prepared ~250hp but on race gas.
3.1L L28. Stroked and bored low tube race motor on 91 pump gas. ~300hp but a heck of a lot more torque than the L24

E-production has to run 4-spd as originally equipped but I have a 5 speed for the 3.1L
