Yeah, I will pretty much take on any sort of crazy job (don't believe?, see the Aston Malibu project) But this one is not cars, and a really fun project. A friend, who manages a hotel, brought me a 5 foot tall Santa, that had been knocked over, and broken. I had some pieces, and used epoxy resin and fiberglass to put them in place, and used more of the same to fill in missing parts. Then some more epoxy, with microsphere filler, to fill in the deep spots, and body filler to finish. Now I have to research what type (and colors) of paint to use to match what's there. Obviously, NOT BC/CC! I will use Tamco's high build primer, though!

Now that.....is really cool.

Hey, Chop, welcome to my world..... we do both interior and exterior fiberglass restoration and conservation. There is a wide varation on the coatings that were on a lot of this stuff. Cheaper items had a lot of simpler acrylic lacquers although we have seen early A/B urethanes from the late 1950s as well as auto enamels. I'm betting that those figures were quite a bit glossier when new. If you just need to spot them in I'd go down and look at the off the shelf aerosols at a Home Depot or even better a Menards. Stay within a line like Krylon so you can mix and match colors close by layering then just hit an overall clear flat when done. Don't be afraid to blow colors into a cup for hand brushing as needed.... If you do spray kind of "back off" and dry spray you shouldn't fry any existing paint....

Finished! Have around 17 hours in it. I first, mistakenly, bought oil paints to paint it. Still wet the next day! So, I stripped it off with mineral spirits, and bought some acrylic. Worked very well, The original had brush marks visible, and the detail in the eyes, and lips were done by a very small brush, so brush paint is what I did. Even duplicated, to the best of my limited ability, the black, brushed on wash, to look older. Had to do a lot of mixing of the colors to get them right.
