I got a new hydraulic hose made, 5000+ PSI so that should be good forever. The steel line was in pretty bad shape. I'll probably replace the other side in the near future.

I'll look into that cold galvanizing, sounds interesting.

We're having a bit of a cold snap, 18 degrees and lots of snow. Heat pump in the shop can't keep up when it gets this cold.

You use the 17 first to clean and etch the surface first then you follow with the 18.

Here is a copy of PPG Restoration guide read page 34-35 it talks about their product which is the same as Axaulta's.
https://us.ppgrefinish.com/Training/Tec ... tion-Guide

PPG products as : SX579 for cleaning and SX520 for the protection.

I have used both with excellent results.
Its imperative to follow instructions as written Do not let either product dry on any part at any time start over on that part keep it wet while etching for required time and then rinse completely.

People run into problems when using these products when the stuff is allowed to dry on you must reapply and scrub with scotch bright pad for required time always keep spraying the stuff on the surface keep it wet.

I get two or three people or more to help me when I do a whole car in bare metal.

I'll have to see what my guys carry next time I'm there. They were all DuPont until DuPont basically got out of the game. Now it's Nason and Valspar so we'll see.

I bought a cheap plasma cutter and pretty pleased with it so far. Had to cut some 10 gauge sheet, quick and easy. Sure beats a cutoff disc.

Merry Christmas and Happy New year!

I am a Dupont guy my self
Nason is a Dupont product, now made by Axalta chances are your supplier is Axalta dealer now.

I purchased a elcheapo 50 amp plazma cutter off of ebay a while back used it a few times worked great as long as it gets clean DRY air its still on its original cutting tip.

When I bought it it had many complaints of burning up tips Guys didn't have a good air drier I guess because I never have had a tip problem.

Calvin used the Heck out of it cutting up his Mustang for that rear end project that he never finished, I recently used it cutting 1/4 steel plate to make a Plate to mount a winch on my CJ7 and it didn't want to turn on then when it did it didn't want to turn off. tried to turn it back on and again it didn't want to turn on but did after a bit I turned it back off left it alone. I may look into the switch but I don't think that is the problem.
I figure its in the circuit board and its life is going to be short.
It is a cheap China made pos I got on ebay but that didn't make it cheap think I paid $500 for it new.

It cuts 1/4 plate like butter super clean cuts. If it dies and I think it is I am gonna buy same size 50 amp machine from Everlast.
I like my Everlast Tig welder very good machine. good warranty with a place here in states to get repairs and the warranty is 5 years.

I went to my paint jobber today and you were right about Axaulta being the new DuPont. But get this, the metal conditioner stuff has been discontinued. The guy there is a great guy, he's already looked into this before me. The tech sheets say you have to use it so he called tech support to ask how we're supposed to use something that doesn't exist? He was told it's no longer required. He was basically brushed off as quick as possible. Sounds pretty fishy to me, nothing has really changed and now it's no longer required, hmm.

It was never required what you said Kinda freaked me out as I like the stuff.
It gives superior rust protection and a good base to build on adds adhesion for paint.

Here it is on their web sight

They still make it looks like they got it listed with the Cromax brand.

Well I finished up making & mounting my winch mount for my Jeep and got the bumper back on it.
Started wiring it up gonna require some mods to be trouble free, I am using Insulated clamps to run the power wires through the grill and around the radiator.
Then I need some new heavy duty Battery cables and a Relay and more wire and a switch to power it from the Cabin. I want a switch in the cabin to energize a relay to power the winch so the cables to it are not Hot at all times just in case of a Short or motor goes bad.

Then the square Steel tubing I bought to make a new spare tire holder is too big for the original tire holder mounts so I have to go back to Vegas to get some smaller stuff.
Then I have to figure out how I am gonna make a couple Jerry can holders for spare gas I need at least one preferably two.
Then figure out mounts for a New Handy man Jack & a shovel.
I also want to build a Rear bumper with a Box to store Chains, Snatch rope & a couple Snatch blocks for the Winch. I am Trying to design every thing to be bolt on.

I have one critic that wants me to just Buy the stuff, I explained that most of the stuff that's still available for the Old jeeps is either China made Junk made with light weight materials Or so expensive you just cringe. Plus where is the fun in just Buying some one else's Junk? I enjoy designing and building my own stuff,

When driving it into the shop I almost drove through my Garage door!
I replaced the master cylinder a few weeks ago and bleed the system everything was fine parked it and forgot about it till this weekend. after I got it stopped before it hit the door I got out flabbergasted and walked around it inspecting things looks like right rear wheel cylinder leaked all the fluid out! What gives every thing was fine?
I ordered every thing to do a complete brake over haul.

Nothing worse than having your foot go to the floor when you step on the brakes, kick starts your heart pretty fast.

Speaking of winch mounts, I'm making one that bolts to the floor in front of the hoist. Not everything I want on there runs and pushing anything up the ramps doesn't appeal to me.

Starting removing the rear fenders on the TR. Unfortunately about half the caged nuts have failed so I'm grinding the bolts off and will have to replace a bunch of the caged nuts. They're a great idea right up until they fail

I got a new aluminum rad for the mustang, old one was leaking so I need to put that in.

I have wanted to mount a small Winch on my 4 post lift forever!
I have needed it so many times! BUT I think I am gonna just break down a sell my 4 post and buy another two post they are just so much better for so many things .

The Studebaker has Bolt on quarters most all the caged nuts broke I have to replace all of them as I remember now lol thanks! I forgot about that lol.
I am working locally again still feels weird to be home so much. I am so excited to get my projects done its been 7-8 years of commuting it wore me down more than I realized.

That's awesome that you finally get to work in town. Commuting would wear anybody down. Not being able to work on any of your projects would drive me crazy.

So you'll be stuck dealing with replacing caged nuts too. Glad I'm not the only one. Of course they're really tucked in there under the fender flange, should be all kinds of fun.
