I did the crank sensor on VW today what a pain and it was no help!
I pulled the cam timing cover and it looks like the cam may have slipped on the 3 bolts that hold it, I confirmed they are still tight so this is weird I can tell its moved.
That would do it for sure, I will get after it in the morning.
The BIG project thread

Good luck, hopefully that's all that you have to do.
I'm going to bodywork the TR one piece at a time. Get each peace blasted one at a time so I don't have a pile of parts in bare metal. Done most of the panel beating and filler work on the front apron or whatever they call it. Probably spray slicksand tomorrow and drop off the hood at the blaster. Rob

I am fully against blasting any body panel Structure fine suspension fine missanious small parts great, Body panels? NO never again not doing it I will do it by hand or chemical and I hate chemical strippers lol
Well so I installed both the Crank shaft sensor and the Cam shaft sensor both no help reset the Cam belt timing again no help. I tore into harness found a bare spot sure enough cam sensor wires were shorting out. fixed that started right up got it all back together installed a new fuel/vacuum pump on engine and reinstalled an old Mass air flow sensor I had changed out trouble shooting years ago because of a hesitation I been battling at hiway speeds. Took it for a test drive 80 miles runs ok good power for what it is still has a little hesitation/stumble at hi speeds I got some more tweaking to do on Cam timing But I think that set of injectors I put in a while back aren't all that great. Dam ebay German deal, USA injectors are $600 each. Dennis B.

These guys do a nice job glass bead blasting the panel's. They've done quite a few for me and all came out great. I hate stripping panels by hand no matter which way you do it. Time consuming and a big mess.
Now that you got it running good hopefully it will stay that way for a good long while. Here's the next project Rob

Got an extra gallon of gas? I am ready to burn it to the ground.
But I am a gluten for punishment so I am gonna order a New engine wire Harness for it. Called vw dealer I bought car from and they will match price of vw online of $355. I have to get my moneys worth out of the repairs done to it in last year, year and half. New cam $1200 Included timing belt, water pump, idler, tension-er, oil, oil filter, coolant bla bla bla Rebuild cylinder head guides valves bla bla bla $700+ New set of rebuilt by Bosch Fuel injectors $800+ Tire set $400 New intank fuel pump $150 New Engine driven fuel pump/Vacuum pump $250 Misc sensors cam position, crank position $150 Damage from being rear ended in hit and run while in California. Replaced 2 damage door skins driver side $450 used Replace rear bumper $200 used Plus I bought a four new door lock actuators that are causing intermittent dead battery $250, need to install them and trouble shoot and repair door wire harness as new harnesses are not available, The only one available is drivers door and if I have to fix one I will fix them all. And then after all that I still need to Paint doors & bumpers and rest of car as CC is in bad shape. If the dang thing didn't get 41 mpg I would have scraped it LOOOONG ago! And now the USA has less than 25 days of Diesel I cant win Dark cloud never goes far from me lol Dennis B.

Wow, that's quite the long and expensive list of repairs. You would think think you covered everything. Sure hope you're done after the wiring harness.
Got some serious back issues again, not happy Rob

Oh Man thats no fun My wife's next surgery was supposed to be on the 7th its been pushed back due to insurance company. I was supposed to start therapy for shoulder issues but again insurance issues they have never called me back.
Put a new Master cylinder on the CJ today finally got the brakes to bleed properly. Started dreaming up a Winch mount gonna try to get that worked out if my buddy Skip comes over to give me a hand with the heavy lifting. Also working dreaming up a spare tire mount I got a bit of steel to make all of it with just gotta be smart with my designs, gonna try out my Fabricator skills lol. Dennis B.

I'm going stir crazy, can't really do anything. I can stand for about 1 minute but that's better than a couple days ago, couldn't stand for more than a couple seconds and sitting wasn't much better. Really frustrating.
My buddy got the Stang brakes sorted out, still had air in the lines. I must have blead them 10 times and had no air come out, totally weird. I think he made the pushrod longer as well. Transmission is fixed, part of the front pump was toast and so was the torque converter. Hopefully I can get it in to the upholstery shop for a top soon. I'm working on the front sheet metal of the TR about a minute at a time. Lots of curves, quite complicated sanding. Nothing like I've ever done. Rob
