I painted my bug few years ago but added some gold (flakes) ghost flames to the front last year, and it does not look bad when the car is cleaned

Thanks Han and Spook,
No narrowed beam for now but I'm waiting for some gasburner wheels which have that cool ET35 offset (vs ET15 for these)..

I used 2k primer (PPG) and the paint is Dupont single stage "Tornado red". The front hood and fenders where wetsanded using 600grit paper to lay the flames out, then top coated with a MS PPG clear.. 5 coats of clear where necessary to burry the flakes, sanding after 3rd coat and then adding 2 last wet coat of clear, with a "flow coat".
Then the hood and front fenders were color sanded going from 1000 to 2000, and buffed using the whool pad first then the foam pad.

Here are some pics of the interior:

Doing a convertible decklid at the mo', the one I have is in "good" shape but I painted it quickly knowing I would replace it soon..

And the flame job (it was my 1st one BTW :D ), the flame design is not very good but..:

Like the paint work and really digging the wheels.

I like wheels that you don't see everybody and his brother riding on.

Ha! I didn't even notice the flames. From the pictures, it looks
like a perfect ghost flame job. VERY nicely done.

How many coats of "flake" did you spray and how was it mixed?

Bug looks very good. I would go down one or two splines in rear ride height :)

Thanks guys  :)

Taller tires are in the garage waiting to take place at the rear, looking for a rake here 8)
And I hate to mess with the rear torsion leaves..

Thanks Han,
I sprayed one light coat of clear with flakes (about 5% flakes I think), mostly to make the shading and then I added more flakes to make the tips and the curves pop out a bit more, I think I put more than 3 times the amount of flakes so I'd say something near 10 to 15% of flakes for the 2nd (last) coat.. I did not write anything that was pretty stupid.. now I do :)
I had to spray 3 coats of clear then I wetsanded to flatten the flames, then again 2 wet coats of clear. Then I took the 1000 grit paper and started the colorsanding process going to 2000 and buffing.

So much masking and sanding... lol

Leo
