The fender flares on my truck are faded and the clear coat is peeling.
I am planning to repaint the roof and window pillars of my truck for the same reason.
The paint was done back in 1999 or 2000 in DuPont Chroma. Most has held up well.
These fender flares are made out of urethane. I don't know if a flex agent was used then.
The paint I plan to use is the PPG "Shop Line" brand (base and clear).
Do I need to add a "flex agent" to the paint just for the flares? Shop Line has Flex Additive "JX993" available. If I need to use it, do I put it in the base and clear coat?
Also, if I need to use that, would I (can I) just mix up a quart and spray the same mix on the roof (which is metal) so I don't need to mix a different batch for the roof and for the fender flares?

You don't need to add a flex agent to it.
PPG is good stuff Dennis B.

I think the last time I added a flex agent into car paint was like 1992. Automotive coatings are very flexible. My local paint jobber is mostly PPG stuff as well.

Thanks!
There may be a duplicate thread on this question. I created one the other day - but didn't see in the paint section (thought I might have forgotten to hit "submit" button) so created a new post/thread on the same question. So sorry if this is a duplicate. I didn't realist that my question was moved to this section. |
I deleted your duplicate post.

Complicated answer... some clears use different hardeners that dont require flex additive,
some clears do not require it at all. i havent looked up your shop line stuff. polyurethanes or urethanes, one is usually flexible and the other is not, i forget what way it goes. but if you are painting those flairs on the truck then no you do not need it either way because you wont be flexing it. also all paint is flexible for a great amount of time. after years most everything becomes brittle due to sun and weather.
