Hello everyone! First time posting. I am painting a Z28 Hugger Orange. I'm currently working on the front clip. I had already painted but used a low end gun and had terrible orange peel. I decided to strip the area and start over with my new quality gun. A friend offered to help while I ran some errands. When I got back there was deep scratches in the plastic and even looks as if the paint was smeared all over. I have been a painter for 25 years for custom cabinet company and dabbled in light auto painting but have never dealt with this. What is the best way to go about this situation? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Give it 2-3 coats of 2K high fill primer. Allow to cure completely. Block it all back smooth to P800 using dry guide coat to highlight any problem areas like scratches not filled. Topcoat.

File lesson learnt that you should never sand new plastic. Scotchbrite only.

Lesson I learned is don't let a friend tell you he knows what he is doing and not ask him to tell you how he was going to do it. It was already painted but he said he thought he was still sanding primer when it was down to raw plastic. Thank you for the information I really do appreciate your advice!

I am curious
How & Why do you think a Hi quality gun over a Lower quality gun will eliminate Orange peel ?
