I want to paint my Forged AL wheel shells black,(BBS 3 piece wheels) but I don't want to ruin the finish with deep scratches. If I don't like the way they look I may return them to a polished condition. Any suggestions?

Your gonna have to etch or sand them to get the paint to stick.
If you don't like them painted, your gonna have to strip them and do a lot of polishing.............

What is the finest grit I could get away with? The car is a race car and not a show car so if A little paint comes off and I have to touch them up its okay. Krylons in the tool box! thanks

I guess part of the question is what type of paint are you going to use?

I mean if you use a spray paint like from Duplicolor you can probably use their engine paints or something and I believe you only need to sand 400 grit?

400 grit is usually I believe about average for a spray paint some say you can go as little as 600. Which is nice because this isnt far from the grit you finish metals in before polishing but go by whatever the can says if you want to use a simple spray can for the job.

Just out of curiousity what are you deciding to scuff the wheels with? Grey or Red scuff pad?
