Thank you, I love painting woodgrain effect, and its easier than you might think. It actually pretty fun compared the most custom paint techniques. In my Advanced Airbrush book, I have a chapter on woodgraining. And in the book I'm writing now, I have even more tricks and techniques for doing different kinds of woodgrain including burlwood. I like woodgraining so much, I wish all my jobs were woodgrain work. Its easier than you might think and the effects you can get are so cool. Crazy Horse Custom Paint

Just wanted to say Welcome to the forum and I will definitely be following any tips you can give!
I am not very artistic so I really admire anyone that can wield an airbrush with skill. I'm especially fond of murals with depth and lots of hidden graphics.... Its nice to see art that has features you might miss the first 1 or 5 times you see it. Realistic flames "true fire" and wood grain are also cool techniques. |

Just now saw this question, etch prime? Depends. I'm not exactly the most pacient painter, but I am a nut for making sure I have a good "tooth" for primer to stick to. For bike parts, I always sandblast and then go straight to primer and have had no problems with it. But for car sheetmetal, etch primer is what I do. Plus now that I have a full time prep guy who is way more pacient than me, he always does things by the book or tech sheet. I've been known to take a shortcut or 5, and at times have paid dearly for it. And if it calls for etch, then he always uses it. But for sandblasted metal, I don't see why you would need to use etch primer. Crazy Horse Custom Paint

Do you epoxy the bare sandblasted metal or use Urethane primer ?
|
If its blasted,,,you still need to use an epoxy or etch first.
