Ok, this is where I have been for the past 4 months. First we built a new shop, doing most of the work ourselves. We started in early May and have been hard at it ever since. In between hammering nails, putting up walls, pushing the car into the shop, pushing the car out of the shop (over and over) getting it sandblasted and stripped, cutting, welding, fitting metal, replacing the floor pan, the trunk pan, both quarter panels, the tail light panel, did I mention fitting metal? Yes it deserves to be mentioned twice or three times, even. All these panels had to be fitted and that was more work than welding. No patch panels here, it was complete panel replacement.
Then I somehow managed to write four magazine articles, answer emails, work on my new book, and try and do that working for a living thing that happens in my airbrush shop. I did take a few hours off to go kayaking. But for most days, its been 16 to 18 hour days.
But I have to say its been amazing journey. A few friends have flown across the country to help out on the car. Local friends have spent time here, most weekends are like a party. The shop is full of people, food cooking in the kitchen, and we end up eating at midnight then collapse. And the support from the automotive aftermarket industry has been amazing. Dynacorn Replacement Parts, Hypertherm Plasma Systems, Summit Racing, PPG, Miller Welders, Evercoat Products, Painless Wiring, Stainless Steel Brakes, Gerson, Coker Tires, Soft Sanders, Meguiars, this build would not be happening without the support of these companies. Not this year or next at the very least. I think of all the years I worked in the industry, supporting these companies as a customer, and now they are helping me.
Anyhow I'll try and keep you all up to date on what's happening here. I am getting a little caught up in life. Once the car is finished, the paint anyhow, I'll be back to my usual looking through the forums and helping out with my five cents of advice. For now here are some pictures.

THis is what we started with.

Getting the car sandblasted. What a job that was. 46 years of crud and rust.

Veronica came out from CA to help out with the car.

Veronica is grinding and I am plasma gouging.

Gary From Quackt Glass removed the windshield and rear window.

Once we had the sheetmetal off, we found lots of surface rust on the inner frame work.

We removed all the rust and painted it with POR15.

And the Bird needed a new roof. So off came the roof.

And here is where we are now. Finishing up the welding this weekend and hopefully getting the new roof on the car. I'll be posting updates. I'll be so happy to finish up the sheetmetal and get to the bodywork and paint.

Opps, I'm so bad. Yes the body of the car is finished. The motor is still in the engine shop. Life got crazy and I needed a break.

Front sure sits low for no engine being in there

Maybe its tied down while its on the tailor?
I love the live fire effect wish I could do that
