That is the point, right there. Making the "best of intentions" an automatic thing means no standing water at the bottom of the tank for periods of time. Mine is set to dump about every 45 minutes on a timer line that is set to start at 8 and go off at 6.

Hey, took a few minutes and looked that up. If you are considering new you should look at Eaton.... This is their competing model WITH the Quiet Air system....

I'm not sure which compressor that you are asking about, the Quincy, Eaton or Emax but my Eaton Polar Air is sooooooo much quieter than the one that it replaced. Both of my compressors are (were) located outside one of my garages in their own little cubbies.

And I can run a DA now! (Still can't paint worth a....)

i just came across polar air on ebay but the shipping to me is crazy. I did notice it is very similar to the emax quiet air compressor which I have my eye on since it says its quiet. Problem is I would like to know what "quiet" really means. So maybe a db rating might be what I am looking for? I am looking for a more quiet air compressor.

Emax is just another private label from Eaton. Emax is mostly carried by Northern Tool. It is the same as the Polar series. I ordered my Polar compressor directly from Eaton and they had a "dent and ding" special Emax sitting on the dock that I jumped on. You just need to make sure the model you choose says Quiet Air and has that big metal noise suppressor box hanging off the side.
Eaton claims anywhere from 67 to 73 db for the quiet series. They now also have a special sythetic oil that makes them even a little quieter. Keep in mind something too.... it is not just the overall sound level that makes a compressor noisy or irritatting it is also the overall harmonics which are developed as they pump up. Eaton compressor don't even sound like other compressors when they run, the harmonics are obviously different. I have gotten phone calls when I was about 5 feet from my Emax and I could still hear my caller. My old industrial Campbell Hausfield unit would have had me going to the other end of the building.....

What oil you got in that? cant hardly see it in the sight glass. looks water clear? or is their no oil in it?
The synthetic compressor oil I run looks like normal brown oil.

Also noticed there are obviously 2 types. The one I listed is for piston units and their other type specifically says for rotary units.
So read the spec.s on that stuff. My bottles claim a 10 db drop. I don't know about that but the minute this stuff was put in, my already darn quite compressor got even quieter..... Eaton recommended it went we went to do our second oil change.....

Thank you for the info! I was looking at getting the eaton quiet 5hp version but not sure if I can get it considering my location.

I do would like to know how you plumbed the silencer into a different room? I am thinking if I could get this air compressor that I would need to do that to for space purposes.

Wow man thats some crazy expensive oil and way more expensive than amsoil and here I thought amsoil was the best and expensive! Does it really do what it claims?

So would you need to do an oil change with this regularly and how often would that be?

I went ahead and purchased the oil change kit from Eaton when I bought my compressor as it was required for the warranty if I remember correctly. It has been sitting on a shelf as my compressor sat for awhile before I installed it.

Eaton suggests running the break in oil that it comes with for 100 to 150 hours then changing over to the blue Whisper Quiet oil. If that is actual run time, it is going to be awhile til mine gets changed as it doesn't really come on all that much. It needs some type of hour meter.

Not sure of the timing of the oil changes after the break in period though.
