Which brand and type of spot-weld cutters do you prefer? I just pick up some foriegn made one and I got about weld cut per bit out of them. I guess they weren't so inexpensive, just cheap. Thanks you for your knowledgable replies in advance.

I hear you about those cutters. I haven't found any of them that work very well or last very long. I bought I think every kind out there. I went back to using 1/8" bits to center drill and asending bit sizes until it broke loose along with a little persuassion with a chisel and hammer.

Eastwood has some that don't seem cheap. Without getting out the catalog, I think they're around $30 a pop.

I've had good like with the Wivco brand,it has the 1/8" center bit and the outside cutter can be sharpened

I've had decent success with an "offshore" spot weld cutter. I found the trick is to center punch first then take it slow without too much pressure till it's started to cut the groove.
Without the center punch they skate around and break teeth, ditto on using too much pressure when starting. I liked the ones I got at the welding supplier best but they were about 3 times the price! And once the tooth broke they didn't work at all! |

Here is the one that I have heard is one of the better tools to do the job.http://search.cartserver.com/search/search.cgi?cartid=a-6834&category=databaseDescript&maxhits=5&keywords=AP1755. Maybe a little pricey but if you need spot welds cut.....
