What tools or methods are there for pouring paint from these cans to minimize waste and mess?

I have to believe there is something out there to make this process better.

I use 2" wide masking tape.
Stand it on edge and set it into the paint lid groove. Press firmly against the inner rim to seal. Should be long enough to go half way around the rim.
You can put 1" wide masking tape flat along the rim area to add extra support.
Be sure to keep the groove clean so the tape adheres well.

Thanks, I had been trying to use the tape technique you mention with inconsistent results.

I think your info there will allow me to refine my approach and do better.

This is a trick I was shown that to my surprise I don't see many people doing. Clean the top of the inner ridge, tear off a piece of 2" tape, press down around that inner edge for a good seal, fold the ear up on the ends, and take a sharp razor blade a trim out the inside piece. It has worked fantastic for me and keeps my cans nice and clean.

My favorite way I've seen (but not used) is a soup ladle. My last re paint I used factory pack black PPG, and it came in the gallon cans that are rectangular with the small opening, and much easier to pour.

This works real nice:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005P ... UTF8&psc=1

Except I am currently using it with latex house paint. On the Q&A for this product some say it is solvent resistant, but there is still the issue of air leaking in from the spigot and vent flap. With water-based paint, there is slow evap so you can store latex paint for two months with this cover and it won't harden.

Yeah, I used to do the masking tape thing when I did automotive refinishing but still came messy. Only other option is invest in a lot of empty gallon or quart cans to transfer paint into.

I might add that with latex paint, I plan to transfer the paint into empty detergent bottles so I can do away with this Amazon product. But I think the bottles are not solvent resistant enough for automotive paint.
