I'm looking to get a hvlp gun for painting motorcycle parts. So small stuff.

I was initially looking at the FX3000 but I'm not thinking that the FX1000 will work better. Also the 1000 only requires 7 scfm which is what my compressor puts out @40psi.

I'm spraying standox paint and was advised that I needed a 1.3 or 1.4 tip size. Most of the 2K clearcoats seem to recommend a 1.4 tip size and 2k primers 1.6mm.

On Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Graco-Sharpe-289 ... 00QUX1PAK/) there is a review which says:

Is this correct? When I called Sharpe tech support they said it was not and the FX1000/FX3000 tip sizes are the same. I'm curious as the FX3000 has tips 1.0, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 1.8 and and the FX1000 has 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, 1.2 and 1.4mm. I asked Sharpe support about shooting 2k primer (1.6mm tip) and they said this was not possible with the FX1000.

If you are going to get the finex, purchase the smaller Finex FX1000 Mini gun (298198 - 289222). These smaller cup guns are ideal for getting into the tight areas on sportbike panels. I use the .6 head for liquid pearls and certain clearcoats. HOK's clear shoots BEAUTIFULLY through the .6 when I'm trying to get a perfect surface on a part that I can't polish. The .6 head makes the Finex shoot a controlled fog nearly identical to an Accuspray.

I use the .8 head for light grain metallics and most of my pearls and basecoats. Certain manufacturer's candy colors I'll use the .8, but sometimes I use the .6 depending on the viscocity of the candy.

I use the 1.0 and 1.1 for prime-ing. As far as not being able to shoot through the 1.0 and 1.1; I shoot Matrix MP3-HS through the 1.0 tip without overreducing it with no problem at all. Granted that's with some good air pressure behind it.

So the Amazon review is correct and Finex tech support is incorrect?

For standard guns the Standox dist who mixed the paint recommended 1.3 or 1.4mm.

So to spray the same with an FX1000 I would want the 1.0 tip?

The 9MM, also the 11, not sure I've ever used it. Never used to find a need for 7mm, not its getting worn. In SAE sizes, the 19/64, 11/16, always look pristine when found in a set. Also the 11/32, stays in the box.

I have no idea what the above is trying to say. It makes no sense. Doesn't seem related to the question I asked.
