Hi all,

Looking for some suggestions on a pressure regulator/dryer, and spray gun regulator.
Just picked up Chicago Pneumatics RCP581VNS 80 Gal. compressor, and I want to set up my garage to paint my Dodge Coronet project car.

I plan on adding a 3/4" vertical copper pipe cooling/condensing system to help in removing moisture.
Looks like I need to reduce down to 3/8" and maintain that size to the gun. Also dedicating an air line just for paint.

Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks

I use Rapid Air’s (coated aluminum) lines, fittings and ports at my home shop. I went a little overkill and used 1” lines, I didn’t really need to but it was just a little more money and keeps the velocity down for an equivalent air flow.

The first water trap that I use I purchased from Rapid Air and is the Rapidair K93218 1” NPT Filter Regulator.

Then after some piping closer to where I work, I use a PneumaticPlus SAU4030M-N04DG-MEP Three Stage Air Drying System - Air Particulate Filter, 0.3 Micron Coalescing Filter & Air Pressure Regulator Combo which uses 1/2" NPT fittings that I reduce down directly at the unit.

I have fittings for my general air tools at this point, then I have more piping that goes into a Devilbiss QC3 Air filter/dryer that uses a Replacement Desiccant Cartridge. After the QC3 I have different High Flow fittings by Legacy that only match my paint guns.

The use of copper is a good choice versus using PVC water pipe which is not designed for air delivery and is actually dangerous to use in a pressurized air delivery system. Why? Because air is a compressible fluid and water is virtually non-compressible.

Don’t reduce your piping down to 3/8”, just use a 3/8” diameter hose, most have ¼ NPT fittings.

Hah! PD's setup looks a lot like mine! OK, PD's looks like a state of art lotto winner's dream shop!

My little pig barn setup works though. In the photo below you can see the three different components. The final QC3 has a little dot that (near the top) that changes from blue to white supposedly to let you know to change the desiccant, but it seems to turn white very quick! I am constantly draining my system (not much usually comes out) and so far I have not seen any moisture get past the first component of the middle set of filters (the grey ones) prior to the QC3. You can also see the different Legacy (green) fitting off of the QC3 that is only for my sprayguns.
