Sata gun air inlet - tiny

I have an older HVLP Sata gun that I use for primers. I just purchased a set of High Flow connectors to get the max air flow for the HVLP guns. When I removed the Sata 3/8 connector that was part of the gun where you attach the male connector I saw that the fitting reduced the air inlet size to 1/8 of an inch. Why would they want to restrict air flow into the gun, I thought that you want the max volume of air into the gun?
